Google Chrome OS

Google Chrome OS was released to the public today along with the source code. Many people aren’t ready to take Google Open Source OS and turn that into a bootable computer. You can Install Google Chrome OS on a virtual machine and try it out.

Below is a step-by-step guide on How to Install Google Chrome OS using Virtual Box.

  1. Download Google Chrome OS and Virtual Box. Install Virtual Box. [Links Given Below]
  2. Once installed you`ll see a Welcome Screen. Click on “New” button on the left side upper corner. This is a wizard to create a new Virtual Machine, Hit Next.
  3. Now give your OS any name you like. For the operating system, choose Linux, with Ubuntu as the version and click on Next.
  4. In the next step you will allocate RAM for the virtual Machine. As you can see recommended is 384 MB. So it depends on how much RAM you have. You can select accordingly…
  5. In the next step, select “Use Existing Hard disk” and click on the folder icon right next to the drop down menu.
  6. Now click on “Add” Button, and browse to Chrome OS image you downloaded. Once done click on “Select” and then click on “Next”.
  7. On the next screen, Hit “Finish” and then click on “Start”.
  8. Now you will see Chrome Splash Screen. To login, you’ll need to enter a valid Google Account ID. Your standard Gmail account should work, but as we said before, this build of Chrome OS came from bittorrent, so you may want to use a throw away account.
